The H.U.G. (Helping Us Give) Fund

Reaching out to our community – every day.

The H.U.G. (Helping Us Give) Fund was conceived by LMPF board member Steve Bass. Its crucial and ongoing purpose is to assist officers in supporting community members’ needs on a daily basis. Each division receives funds to support community members, especially families with children, who are experiencing crises such as domestic violence, hardship and homelessness.

Real Lives. Real Stories.

When police can make a positive difference in the lives of the community members they serve and protect, it’s better for all of us. Here’s how community members and officers see the H.U.G. Fund working every day.

“It was great to see the joy on the children’s faces help this family in need – so thanks for this program and of course for everything else the Police Foundation does for the LMPD.”
LMPD Police Officer
“The thinking behind the H.U.G. Fund was to connect our officers with the neighborhoods they work in. It’s helped our officers get truly involved with their district. It’s also helped our community become engaged with the police in a positive manner – by showing them that our officers are good, caring people.”

The Impact
It’s Making

The H.U.G. Fund is currently providing essentials like clothing, food and personal items to those in need. In addition, it not only strengthens community-officer relationships but also eases the financial burden on officers who would otherwise pay for these items out of their own pockets.
